OKEMOS, Mich. – NASCAR legend Jeff Gordon was recently designated as the pace car driver for the 99th Indianapolis 500 taking place May 24th. Jeff Gordon will pace the Indy 500 in a Corvette Z06, and we couldn’t be more excited to see Chevrolet represented as brand with historic ties to this great race.
The Corvette Z06 is supercharged with 650 horsepower, a seven-speed transmission and a track-capable chassis system; specs Gordon is undeniably familiar with as a man of speed.
When Jeff Gordon paces the Indy 500 in a Corvette Z06, it will be the 13th time Chevrolet’s Corvette has served as the pace car for the race! That’s a longer track record than any other vehicle in the race’s history! Plus, it will be the 26th time a Chevrolet is at the helm of “The Greatest Spectacle in Racing.”
Gordon and Chevrolet share similar deep bonds with the Indy 500, making them a perfect match for the 99th annual race. Gordon grew up in nearby Pittsboro, Ind., and has won the Brickyard 400 at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway five times! Chevrolet was founded in 1911, the first year of the Indy 500, and the Chevrolet brothers– Louis, Arthur and Gaston– competed in the race in its early years. In fact, Gaston actually took first place in 1920!
