The Chevrolet Camaro Through The Years

OKEMOS, Mich. – This year Chevrolet is celebrating the 50th anniversary of one of its most classic performance vehicles, the Camaro. Proven to become an American icon, the Camaro has stood the test of time as a fan favorite. The Camaro has survived six different generations and does not look like it is slowing down. But before you get in the driver’s seat, let’s take a look at the Chevrolet Camaro through the years. 

First Generation:
The first generation of the Camaro was during 1967-1969. It was a time when muscle cars, drag racing cars, and road racing cars were becoming popular. The 1967 and 1969 Camaro models also each served at the Indy 500 pace car, creating a long lasting relationship with Chevrolet and Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

Second Generation:
The longest running model in Camaro history was the second generation, running from 1970-1981. The European-influenced styling gave the Camaro it’s best year ever in 1979 with 282,571 sold.

Third Generation:
The third generation Camaro ran from 1982 -1992. It premiered an all-new architecture with a more aggressive styling. This was also the generation that introduced the first Camaro hatchback.

Fourth Generation:
The fourth generation improved the Camaro’s performance with higher-power engines. The new style incorporated a fast-raked windshield, which gave the car a sleeker profile. The fourth generation ran from 1993 – 2002, and the car saw a redesign in 1998.

Fifth Generation:
The Camaro saw a hiatus from 2002 to 2009, until the newest 2010 model was introduced. The fifth generation ran from 2010 to 2015 and focused more on the heritage of the performance vehicle. The fifth generation Camaro went on to sell more than 500,000 models and outpaced its rivals for 5 years in a row.

Sixth Generation:
We now welcome the newest generation with the 2016 Chevrolet Camaro. This Camaro features a stronger architecture, top of the line technologies, and the highest-ever levels of performance. The 2016 Camaro has earned the 2016 Motor Trend Car of the Year award and will lead the way for up coming 2017 models.

Chevrolet to be Presenting Sponsor of Woodward Dream Cruise for Fifth Year

OKEMOS, Mich. – If you’ve never been to the Woodward Dream Cruise – a globally recognized annual car show that attracts over 1.5 million people to metro Detroit – this is the year to go. Chevrolet will be the presenting sponsor of the Woodward Dream Cruise for the fifth year, and they’ve prepared a slew of events that you can get involved with, including:

• Volt Silent Cruise: Chevy Volts only! The Dream Cruise will get a quiet but electric start where you and your guests can cruise down Woodward Ave. in your Volt. Plus, check out the next-generation Volt that Chevy will show off beforehand at the Kingsley Inn in Bloomfield Hills, Mich

• Design on Woodward car show: GM Design will show off over 100 personal vehicles owned by GM design team members. Who knows what you can expect to see from one of the world’s greatest automotive design teams, but we’re betting you won’t be disappointed in what they bring to the table.

• The Chevrolet Performance display: Here you can check out a number of performance vehicles still searing from the Hot Rod Power Tour; a handful of Chevrolet Performance parts and accessories; and an IndyCar vehicle. Plus, Linda Vaughn, ambassador and promoter of multiple American racing forms, will sign autographs.

Chevrolet will be the presenting sponsor of the Woodward Dream Cruise that officially begins its roll along Woodward Ave. on Saturday, Aug. 15. During the Cruise, Chevy’s lineup will be on display in Birmingham, Mich. Vehicles that will be on display include the 2016 Camaro coupe and convertible, the 2016 Volt, and a coupe and convertible version of the 1955 Bel Air in celebration of its 60^th anniversary.

If you’re planning on cruising Woodward, Chevy wants to make sure you have a memorable day that ends with you recounting the great moments of the Cruise. To make sure that happens, Chevy will deploy six Silverados to ride along Woodward Ave. that are ready to help anyone whose classic cruiser of any make stalls, overheats, or runs out of gas.
