Chevrolet's List of Tips for Transporting Your Holiday Tree Home

OKEMOS, Mich.,–– Now that the holidays are upon us, it's time to get together with your family and head out to find the perfect Christmas tree. It's better to be prepared for your adventure so that you get your family and your tree home safe this year. Not only is transporting your tree a hassle, but it can be very dangerous as well. Take a look at Chevrolet's list of tips for transporting your holiday tree home.

Chevrolet engineers put together these tips to make your trip home from your tree-hunting adventure a much safer one:

1. First and foremost, dress warm! Wear gloves to protect your hands and bring a piece of cardboard to put under your knees when you're cutting down the tree.

2. If you've made room inside your vehicle for your tree, make sure to lay something down like a piece of tarp to keep your car clean. If you're going with the old-fashioned tree on top of the car method, make sure you have cross rails installed on the top of your vehicle to avoid damage to the paint.

3. Tightly bound the tree with tie or rope to make sure it doesn't move before you tie it to the top of your vehicle.

4. Face the stump end of the tree towards the front of the car. This will reduce aerodynamic drag and ensure you have a safe ride home.

5. Lay down your tree over top of the cross rails. Then, loop twine over and around it. Repeat to then cinch it in a figure-eight motion. This will secure the tree tightly to the roof of your car and protect it from moving around during your drive.

6. Try to avoid taking highways on your route home. Take secondary roads if possible!

7. Chevrolet's Bonus Tip: Choose a vehicle with many infotainment and tech features, such as the 2018 Chevy Traverse. With options available such as OnStar 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot, Apple CarPlay/Android Auto compatibility and 120-volt power outlet, you'll be able to take the holiday party with you wherever you go!
