Get Your Vehicle Ready for Your Next Road Trip

OKEMOS, Mich., – Don't let your vehicle break down during a road trip. Whether you're unable to leave your driveway or you stall out in the middle of a crowded freeway, having your vehicle break down on your drive can be frustrating and stressful. Being proactive and prepared is the the best way to combat this. Inspect these critical components to get your vehicle ready for your next road trip and avoid being sidelined on the road waiting for a tow truck:

Check the oil level:

Get Your Vehicle Ready for Your Next Road Trip

Your oil helps to regulate the temperature of your engine, preventing it from overheating by lubricating important internal components. Typically, oil changes occur every 5,000-8,000 miles, or whenever your vehicle owner's manual recommends. You can check your oil in just a few simple steps. First, pop the hood of your engine and find the engine's dipstick (it should look like a plastic ring sticking out of your engine). Next, remove the dipstick from the engine and wipe it on a cloth. After this, stick it in your engine again and remove it. The dipstick will have "FULL" and "EMPTY" labels on its side. If the oil level only reaches to the "EMPTY" component, it's time for an oil change!

Check your tire tread:

Get Your Vehicle Ready for Your Next Road Trip

You're going to need working tires in order to enjoy your road trip! Over time, your tires can wear down on their tread, reducing their ability to effectively grip the road. You can check the tread of your tires using the "penny method" to save yourself some time. Place a penny face down between the grooves of your tires. If you can't see Lincoln's head, your tires have adequate tread and should be able to handle the road ahead. If you can see his head, however, this means your tread has worn down and your tires need to be replaced as soon as possible! Make sure you know how to take care of your tires to ensure they last a long time.

Listen to your brakes:

Get Your Vehicle Ready for Your Next Road Trip

Does braking take longer than it used to? Does it pull your vehicle to the side as you slow to a stop? Does it make a loud grinding or screeching noise when you brake? If you answered yes to any of these questions, it may be time to have your brakes looked at. Make sure you know when to get your brakes inspected to keep everyone on the road safe, including yourself and your passengers! Repaired or replaced brakes can make all the difference in the world, whether you're going on a road trip or simply commuting to work.

Make sure your coolant is filled:

Get Your Vehicle Ready for Your Next Road Trip

On long drives, your vehicle's engine can overheat with increased usage. Your engine's coolant serves to reduce and maintain an even temperature with your vehicle's engine. It's one of the most important components of your vehicle, and without it, overheating could permanently damage your vehicle! The easy part, however, is that it is extremely easy to check. Engine coolant is typically replaced every 30,000 miles, or whenever your vehicle owner's manual estimates. Pop the hood of your engine and look for the large plastic container labeled "coolant" or "antifreeze". The container should have markings on the side to indicate whether or not you have enough coolant, and if it's below the required level, you'll need to refill it! Bring in your vehicle to Graff Okemos if you need your coolant replaced and we'll take care of it right away.

Check your heating & cooling:

Get Your Vehicle Ready for Your Next Road Trip

Nobody wants to drive in a vehicle that's too hot or too cold. Malfunctioning heating and cooling units can make everyone in the vehicle irritated, making the drive an all around exhausting experience. Checking your heating and air conditioning is easy: if your vehicle doesn't heat up or cool down fast enough (or at all), it could be an issue with your system. Have your heating and cooling system inspected before you leave. We'll be happy to help you find an affordable solution!

Schedule a checkup:

Get Your Vehicle Ready for Your Next Road Trip

If your vehicle is in need of any service, such as an oil change, tire rotation, or alignment, make sure to schedule a checkup before you head out. Being dedicated to routine auto maintenance is important in protecting the investment of your ride and extending its life. A vehicle that is in top shape will have a better chance of staying reliable and working efficiently.

Save yourself the trouble of breaking down on the road by remaining prepared this year. Make sure these components are in working condition to get your vehicle ready for your next road trip. Avoid the tow truck and ensure a safe ride to your destination by making sure your car performs its best. Brush up on our routine maintenance tips to double-check you've covered all the bases. If you're unsure whether or not your vehicle will be able to handle the road ahead, schedule an appointment with us and we'll inspect your vehicle before you go! 5 Simple Ways to Show Your Car Some Love on Valentine's Day

OKEMOS, Mich., –– Valentine's Day: the holiday spent showing your loved ones how much you care about them. This year, don't forget to show some love to one of the most dependable and reliable things in your life. Your car is there for you through everything, the good and the bad. Through Michigan's harsh winter, your ride deserves special attention and treatment in order for it to continue to "take care of you" on the road. Read our 5 simple ways to show your car some love on Valentine's Day for a vehicle that feels refreshed and ready to take you on your next big adventure:

5 Simple Ways to Show Your Car Some Love on Valentine's Day

1. Give her a nice wash.
The winter season can really have a negative impact on your vehicle's exterior, especially in Michigan. When roads are salted to prevent snow and ice buildup, your car will suck the salt up into its tires and underbody. A pileup of salt can slowly lead to the deterioration of your vehicle's paint if you don't get frequent car washes in the winter. Start your Valentine's Day off by running your ride through a nice car wash.

2. Spruce up her interior.
As salt, snow, water, and ice start to track with you into your vehicle, the carpets/mats can get ugly fast. Take some time aside to vacuum and shampoo (if you're really feeling adventurous) your car's floors and seats. A clean interior will not only give your vehicle the refresh it needs, but will make you feel better as well. We understand that it's hard to clean your car in the cold winter weather, but even the smallest touch up can make a significant difference overtime and lead to less wear and tear.

3. Top off her fluids.
In the winter, your vehicle uses an excess amount of energy to perform its best. With that being said, it's extremely important to make sure all fluids are full. The two big ones to check in this cold season are anti-freeze and windshield washer fluid. Keep an extra jug of both fluids in your trunk so that you have some with you at all times!

4. Buy her a care package.
Your vehicle runs at optimum efficiency with fresh oil. Typically, oil changes are needed every 3,000-5,000 miles to ensure your engine continues to run well. On your Valentine's Day route, stop by Graff Okemos to get your car's oil changed out. Along with this simple service, it's also a great idea to get your vehicle's alignment checked and your tires rotated for a smoother ride on the road.

5. Buy her some perfume.
The nastiness of the winter season can leave your car smelling gross. Good thing, there are multiple fragrances that'll freshen up your ride in no time. Top off your Valentine's Day by giving your vehicle one last gift. Take a trip to your local auto supply store to pick up some air fresheners. Your car will thank you for the crisp new scent.

Although there's nothing wrong with your vehicle being your valentine this year, impress your actual Valentine's Day date with a clean and smooth ride. Celebrate this loving holiday by taking time to care for the things that matter most. A simple car wash will go a long way for the life of your vehicle, especially in the winter. Follow these 5 simple ways to show your car some love on Valentine's Day for a ride that will continue to run its best. Reachable Goals to Set for the New Year

Reachable Goals to Set for the New Year

OKEMOS, Mich., –– Not quite sure what resolutions to set for yourself this year? Don't worry, it's not a requirement. Instead, focus on setting goals that are easy to achieve and will improve the quality of your life in several different areas. Whether it be fitness and health or finances and relationships, there are probably a number of objectives you've been looking to accomplish. Jumpstart your list of 'to-dos' with a number of reachable goals that you can set for the new year. Big or small, these ideas will get you on the right track for a prosperous and happy year!

Fitness

Reachable Goals to Set for the New Year
  1. Stop doing the workout you hate. There are plenty of ways to burn calories besides running. Try a different high-calorie workout like dance cardio, indoor cycling, or even yoga.
  2. Although cardio is an essential part of any workout routine, it's also good to give your body a rest. Your knees take a lot of impact from cardio exercises. Reduce all that pressure by regularly adding a low-impact workout, such as walking or strength training.
  3. Start weightlifting. As much as you may think that cardio is the biggest way to drop pounds, it's not. Weightlifting will help you boost your metabolism and build strength while burning fat.
  4. Ditch the scale. The number on the scale doesn't mean anything. Muscle weighs more than fat; so if you start weightlifting, your weight may actually increase.
  5. Foam roll your muscles. Giving your muscles proper care is critical for them to heal faster. Foam rolling is a great way to rub out your body and give it the massage it needs. Always remember, your recovery is just as important as your workout.

Health

Reachable Goals to Set for the New Year
  1. Learn to make a new healthy recipe. Once you find something you love, take advantage of the opportunity to create your new favorite hearty dish. It may take a little trial and error, but it'll be worth it.
  2. Ditch the foods you hate. Force feeding yourself foods that you don't have a taste for just because they're "healthy" will make your diet plans backfire. Find healthy foods that you love instead of eating the ones you hate.
  3. Don't skip out on breakfast. As they say, "it's the most important meal of the day". It's easy to make breakfast healthy and packed full of protein.
  4. Create a bedtime routine. By starting a nightly ritual, you'll feel more at ease and will be able to snooze more! After all, sleep is very important for our bodies.
  5. Stop beating yourself up. Not physically, but mentally. Give yourself more compliments and make this year more about you. If you're happier with yourself, you'll be happier in many other facets of life.

Financial

Reachable Goals to Set for the New Year
  1. Get a handle on your credit score. Begin taking steps to improve your credit and get it back on track. You can start by paying off debt and keeping low balances on your credit cards.
  2. Get your taxes done early this year. Don't wait until the last minute to get all of your documents together. You'll avoid the stress and hassle of scrounging everything together and will feel a lot better once you're all done!
  3. Set a budget for yourself. This allows you to exercise discipline when it comes to how much money you're spending on needs and wants. By setting a budget, you'll reach your financial goals much faster.
  4. Start saving. Set a goal of how much you want to save and start working towards it. Make it attainable and as large as you can manage. Set a certain amount of money aside out of each paycheck to start saving towards your goal.
  5. Pay off your debt. All the more reason you need to set a savings goal for yourself. Paying off bad debt should be a priority so that you're debt-free and stress-free.

Relationship

  1. Commit to small and measurable changes. Fixing the little things makes the biggest impact. Slowly but surely, you'll feel more empowered about tackling major issues and will lead a happier life.
  2. Ditch the cell phones. Focus on spending more quality time with your partner. Our society is too dependent on technology, making it hard to truly spend time with that special someone. Put the phones down and try enjoying each other's company. It will make a huge difference!
  3. Treat each other as kindly as you treat your friends. Often times, couples treat friends and family with more respect and kindness. Instead of getting too comfortable with your partner, give them your upmost attention and kindness, as you would anyone else.
  4. Upgrade your date night. Start trying new things together. This could even be as simple as trying a new restaurant together or going to a new vacation destination. While you may feel apt to having date night at the places you feel comfortable, it can lead to boredom and dissatisfaction.
  5. Motivate each other. Whether it's working on fitness, cooking a new meal, learning a new skill, or even picking up a new hobby, motivating your significant other will keep you both happy and ready to take on the next adventure.

Getting the motivation to make changes in your life may be difficult, but with a little guidance, you'll be on the path to achieving your goals for 2018 in no time. Start small and work your way up from there. Tackling the little things can make it easier to tackle something big you've been wanting to accomplish. Our list of reachable goals to set for the new year will help you get on the right track for a year full of success and happiness! Another great way to start the year off is by having routine maintenance performed on your vehicle. Keeping up on your car's major components will ensure it continues to run great down the road. The Scariest Car Issues You'll Want to Avoid this Halloween

OKEMOS, Mich.,–– There's nothing scarier than having your car break down out on the road. Repair costs, towing expenses, and having to pay for a rental car can be a nightmare for your wallet. With proper vehicle care and routine maintenance, however, you can keep your vehicle and your bank account safe from a potential scare this October. Make sure you know what to do if you encounter any of the scariest car issues you'll want to avoid this Halloween. Following our advice will prevent your trick-or-treating from taking a turn for the worse!

Dead Battery

The Scariest Car Issues You'll Want to Avoid this Halloween

Problem: Your vehicle won't start! If you don't hear any noise when you start up your vehicle, it could mean that your battery is out of energy and may need to be jumpstarted back to life. (Think Frankenstein's monster, but in battery form.)

Solution: If you're having difficulty getting your vehicle going, phone a friend or ask a nearby driver to help you jumpstart your vehicle. Follow these steps to avoid the scary experience of a dead battery:

  1. Get the other vehicle as close to yours as possible (front to front) and put both vehicles in park. Shut them off and set the parking brakes.
  2. Next, open both vehicle's hoods and locate the batteries in each car. Make sure to identify the positive and negative terminals (typically, red means +, and black means - ).
  3. Using a pair of jumper cables, attach your red, positive clamp to the positive terminal to the vehicle with the good battery. After that, attach the other red clamp to the positive terminal of the dead battery.
  4. Next, attach the black, negative clamp to the negative terminal of the good battery. After that, attach the remaining black clamp to an unpainted metal part of your vehicle away from the battery  (this is extremely important, and ensure a safe jump.)
  5. Start the vehicle with the working battery and let it run for a couple minutes. After that, start the car with the dead battery and allow it to run.
  6. Remove the cables in reverse order (negatives first, positive after) and thank the person that helped you. Congrats! You've restarted your battery!

Preventative Measures: If your vehicle is having difficulty starting itself, bring it into our Service Center! We can test the strength of your battery to determine whether or not it needs replacing so you can get back to trick-or-treating in no time!

Brake Wear

The Scariest Car Issues You'll Want to Avoid this Halloween

Problem: If you can hear screeching, squealing, or grinding when you try to slow down your vehicle, it isn't a monster - it's your brakes! Over time, your brake pads wear down through to the metal caliper and cause it to make contact with the disc/rotor. This metal on metal contact will cause grinding to occur and do serious damage to your brake system.

Solution: If you experience any of these symptoms, don't be scared! You may need to have your brakes repaired or your brake pads replaced. Have our service team inspect your brakes to determine whether or not they require maintenance, then take advantage of our brake specials to receive a discount with your next service!

Preventative Measures: Follow our 5 tips to increase the life of your brakes to ensure that these integral safety components are kept intact throughout the year.

Low Oil Level

The Scariest Car Issues You'll Want to Avoid this Halloween

Problem: If your vehicle's "check engine" light illuminates, or if your engine is much louder than normal, it could mean that your oil needs to be replaced. Since your engine's oil is used to lubricate and cool your engine, a low oil level can cause your engine's components to grind and push against one another, creating friction, increasing the heat in your engine. This can cause it to overheat and can create serious problems and warping in your engine!

Solution: Typically, you should have your oil changed every 3,000-5,000 miles, or whenever your vehicle owner's manual tells you to do so. Having your oil regularly serviced will prevent damage to your vehicle and save you from the nightmares of overheating!

Preventative Measures: If you aren't sure when you last changed your oil, check it from home to determine whether or not you need an oil replacement. You can also keep a service log to maintain a record of services performed on your vehicle. That way, you'll be able to estimate when you need an oil change!

Overheating Engine

The Scariest Car Issues You'll Want to Avoid this Halloween

Problem: If you notice smoke coming from your engine or if this symbol appears on your dashboard, pull over immediately. Your engine is overheating!

Solution: If your engine overheats, fear not! At Graff Okemos, we offer free pickup and delivery. Give us a call and we'll pick you up right away to get you and your vehicle to safety. We're here to help you avoid any unnecessary scares this Halloween.

Preventative Measures: An overheating engine can be caused by a variety of factors. The most common, however, are low coolant and low oil levels. You should have your coolant replaced every 30,000 miles, or whenever your vehicle owner's manual tells you to do so. Not sure when you last had it looked at? You can check it at home with these three simple steps:

  1. After turning off your car, pop your engine's hood.
  2. Locate your coolant reservoir. Typically, your coolant reservoir is located on the right side of your engine, but if you aren't sure what it looks like, look for the "coolant" or "antifreeze" labels on the cap of the large plastic container.
  3. Using the dotted lines on the side of the reservoir, you can determine whether or not you need to replace your coolant by the "FULL" and "EMPTY" indicators.

Dead Headlight or Taillight

The Scariest Car Issues You'll Want to Avoid this Halloween

Problem: If you're having difficulty seeing at night while driving, your headlights may need to be replaced. Without properly working headlights, you may encounter reduced or obstructed vision, making the road an unsafe and scary place for you and other trick-or-treaters.

Solution: When dawn breaks again, make your way to our Graff Okemos Service Center. We'll inspect and service your lights right away to ensure that you're able to take on the night once again. Whether you're vampire hunting or just enjoying a night out, make sure your lights are in good working condition this October to keep you and all the trick-or-treaters safe!

Preventative Measures: Luckily, your vehicle has built-in measures to remind you when it requires replacement lights. Besides the reduced visibility on the road, you may notice that your turn signals blink at a much faster rate than normal. This a signal to indicate that you'll need to have your turn signal light replaced as soon as possible! We can also check your lights for you at our Service Center and answer any questions you may have about them.

You might be in store for a scare or two this Halloween, but they certainly shouldn't have to do with your vehicle. Use our preventative measures and tips to fight off the scariest car issues you'll want to avoid this Halloween. While you're at it, take advantage of our Fall Car Care guide to ensure your vehicle can take on the changing temperatures. If you happen to run into a scare this Halloween, call us and schedule service to take on the new weather. Plus, you can utilize our coupons to save some money that you can spend on cool costumes or unique decorations. Enjoy Halloween this year and avoid the scares of a breakdown while you're on the road!

Weather Strips

Caring For Your Car this Fall

The black rubber linings around your doors, windows, trunk, and windshield are called weather strips. They work to keep water, dirt, and air out of your vehicle while you drive. Damaged weather strips are very noticeable, but it can sometimes be difficult to find the damaged section to determine what part of your weather strip requires maintenance. If you hear the sounds of wind while you drive or notice small pools of water forming in your vehicle, it could mean that one of your weather strips is damaged. Take a look at our weather stripping page to learn how to protect your weather strips from damage, how to spot damage to your weather strips, and where your weather strips are located throughout your vehicle.

Heating and Ventilation System

Caring For Your Car this Fall

Your vehicle's heating and ventilation system keeps you warm on cold days and helps to defrost your windows before you drive! Without a properly working heating and ventilation system, you can potentially lose visibility on the road and you won't be able to enjoy a comfortable commute to work or school with a warm vehicle. Learn about the importance of your heating and ventilation system, what to do if you need any components replaced, and how to properly maintain your vehicle's heating and ventilation system during the changing seasons.

Windshield

Caring For Your Car this Fall

Believe it or not, your windshield is one of the most important safety features in your vehicle! Your windshield protects you from outside elements while you drive and also provides up to 45% of your vehicle's structural integrity in front-end collisions and up to 60% in rollover accidents. In the event of an accident, your windshield helps to hold your vehicle together and prevents your roof from caving in. On our Windshield Care page, you can learn more about the importance of proper windshield care, what to do if you find any cracks or chips, and how to prevent them from expanding and causing further damage to your windshield.

Belts and Hoses

Caring For Your Car this Fall

Have you ever wondered how many components need to work in order for your engine to run? Your vehicle's belts and hoses are responsible for transferring power and fluids to important components in your engine, allowing it to function properly. Broken or damaged belts and hoses can potentially damage and disable your engine. Checking them in the fall is extremely important because the changing weather can cause these components to crack or break in colder temperatures. Read up on our Belts and Hoses page to learn how to inspect, protect, and improve the efficiency of these integral parts of your engine.

Emergency Kit

5 Tips to Increase the Life of Your Brakes

OKEMOS, Mich., – Your brakes are the most essential safety component in your vehicle. Without proper care they can wear down quickly, reducing your ability to stop and increasing your risk of danger out on the road. Follow these 5 tips to increase the life of your brakes so that you improve you and your passengers' safety on the road as well as increase your gas mileage.

Watch Your Speed

5 Tips to Increase the Life of Your Brakes

Stopping your vehicle at high speeds is the number one way your brakes are worn down as you drive. This bad driving habit causes brakes to wear down significantly faster than they would at slower speeds. Your brakes begin to work by using the brake pads to reduce the rotation of your brake discs when the vehicle is traveling. When this happens, the brake pads are slowly worn down and the energy of the spinning disc converts into heat. The faster you drive, the more energy you produce, thus generating more heat when the brakes are applied to it. Over time, the heat your brakes produce can wear down its important components, leading to costly repairs and potential damage to your brakes. If you practice slower driving habits, your vehicle will put less stress on your brakes.

Practice Coasting

5 Tips to Increase the Life of Your Brakes

A great way to reduce your chances of stopping at high speeds is by coasting while you drive. Allowing your vehicle to naturally slow down before applying your brakes at a stop will save you on fuel costs as well as reduce the wear on your brakes. However, keeping an eye on other drivers while you're on the road is an extremely important safety tactic! Remaining mindful of other drivers' behaviors will keep you and your passengers safe.

Consider What You Carry

5 Tips to Increase the Life of Your Brakes

Whether you're commuting to work or heading out on a road trip, the luggage you keep in your vehicle will directly affect important components on your brakes. The added weight to your vehicle will add pressure and make it more difficult for your brakes to slow down the vehicle, wearing them down at a much faster rate than normal. Keeping your vehicle light and free of excess weight will allow your brakes to perform efficiently without any unnecessary pressure.

Be Aware of Your Surroundings

5 Tips to Increase the Life of Your Brakes

It's impossible to predict the behavior of other drivers on the road. Sometimes, drivers will brake or swerve between lanes for no reason, potentially causing the vehicles behind them to have to slam on their brakes. To avoid this, give yourself a wide berth between other vehicles while you're on the freeway to increase your safety and the longevity of your brakes. That way, you'll avoid having to perform unnecessary stops on the road that would otherwise wear your brakes down. Practice this mindful habit next time you're on the freeway!

Getting Your Oil Changed

OKEMOS, Mich., – Whether you're driving your first, second, or even third vehicle, routine maintenance is an important way to ensure that it works at peak performance. Getting your oil changed is one of the most important forms of routine maintenance. Regularly maintaining a consistent oil changing schedule can improve your gas mileage, vehicle performance, and more. Learn the answers to some important questions that are frequently asked about a vehicle's oil and getting it changed.

What Does Vehicle Oil Do?

Getting Your Oil Changed

Your vehicle's oil actually does quite a bit to make sure you're able to drive efficiently! Your engine has many moving parts that move and rub against each other as you drive. When these parts move and rub against each other, they create friction, which can increase the heat of your vehicle and potentially melt or damage important components of your engine. Your vehicle's oil lubricates these parts, reducing the heat of your engine and allowing it to run smoothly.

How Often Should I Get My Oil Changed?

Typically, you should get your oil changed every 5,000-8,000 miles, or whenever your vehicle owner's manual tells you that you should. Some vehicles have larger oil reservoirs, and as such, take longer time to use up any oil they may have. Typical sedans have a 4-quart oil reservoir, while larger vehicles, like pickup trucks and SUVs, usually have 6-quart oil containers. Your vehicle owner's manual will let you know how much oil your vehicle is capable of holding.

How Do I Know if My Oil Needs Changing?

Getting Your Oil Changed

If you aren't sure when you should get your next oil change, checking your oil is very easy and only takes a couple minutes! After stopping your vehicle and allowing it to cool down, pop the hood and look for the dipstick on your engine (it should look similar to the image above). Pull the dipstick out and wipe it off with a cloth, then reinsert the dipstick and remove it once more. After that, take a look at the dipstick and its labels. There should be a "FULL" and "EMPTY" label on each - if your oil level is below the "EMPTY" label, it's time for an oil change.

Should I Get Synthetic or Conventional Oil?

Getting Your Oil Changed

The viscosity of your oil is determinant upon what kind of vehicle you drive. For standard vehicles, conventional oil is the most effective, as it provides all-around coverage, lasts long, and is fairly inexpensive. For premium vehicles like the Chevrolet Corvette, synthetic oil may need to be used, as these vehicles use different forms of fuel and their components may require specific fluids in order to run efficiently. If you aren't sure what type of oil your vehicle may need, refer to your vehicle owner's manual or contact us for additional help!

How Often Should I Change My Oil Filter?

Getting Your Oil Changed

Your oil filter should be replaced every 3 months, or every other oil change, depending on what comes first. If your check engine light comes on while you drive and you haven't replaced your oil filter in a while, it could mean you need a new oil filter. If you're driving in heavy stop-and-go traffic, heavy towing, or extreme temperatures, you may need to get your oil changed more often than usual.

Getting your oil changed is easy, quick, and can make a huge difference when it comes to keeping your vehicle in peak condition. If you're in need of an oil change soon or another form of routine maintenance, refer to our coupons page to save yourself some money on your next visit! Make sure you schedule an appointment with us as soon as possible once you know you're in need of an oil change so you can get back on the road in no time. Components to Check Before Your Next Road Trip

OKEMOS, Mich., – Don't let your vehicle break down during a road trip. Whether you're unable to leave your driveway or you stall out in the middle of a crowded freeway, having your vehicle break down during a road trip can be a very frustrating encounter. The best way to combat this, however, is by remaining prepared. Keep an eye on these components to check before your next road trip so you don't end up sidelined on the road waiting for a tow truck.

Oil Level

Components to Check Before Your Next Road Trip

Tires

Components to Check Before Your Next Road Trip

You're going to need working tires in order to enjoy your road trip! Over time, your tires can wear down on their tread, reducing their ability to effectively grip the road. You can check the tread of your tires using the "penny method" to save yourself some time. Place a penny face down between the grooves of your tires. If you can't see Lincoln's head, your tires have adequate tread and should be able to handle the road ahead. If you can see his head, however, this means your tread has worn down and your tires need to be replaced as soon as possible! Make sure you know how to take care of your tires to ensure they last a long time.

Brakes

Components to Check Before Your Next Road Trip

Does braking take longer than it used to? Does it pull your vehicle to the side as you slow to a stop? Does it make a loud grinding or screeching noise when you brake? If you answered yes to any of these questions, it may be time to have your brakes looked at. Make sure you know when to get your brakes inspected to keep everyone on the road safe, including yourself and your passengers! Repaired or replaced brakes can make all the difference in the world, whether you're going on a road trip or simply commuting to work.

Cooling System

Components to Check Before Your Next Road Trip

Bring in your vehicle if you need your coolant replaced and we'll take care of it right away.

Heating and Air Conditioning

Components to Check Before Your Next Road Trip

Nobody wants to drive in a vehicle that's too hot or too cold. Malfunctioning heating and cooling units can make everyone in the vehicle irritated, making the drive an all around exhausting experience. Checking your heating and air conditioning is easy: if your vehicle doesn't heat up or cool down fast enough (or at all), it could be an issue with your system. Have your heating and cooling system inspected before you leave. We'll be happy to help you find an affordable solution!

Save yourself the trouble of getting lost on the road by remaining prepared this year! These components to check before your next road trip can make your whole experience a lot better is they're all in working condition. Make sure all of your vehicle is up to speed before you find yourself waiting for a tow truck! If you're unsure whether or not your vehicle will be able to handle the road ahead, schedule an appointment with us and we'll inspect your vehicle before you go! If you schedule an appointment with us, you can save money on routine maintenance, tires, and more with our coupons, too. No matter where your road trip takes you, we wish you smooth sailing on your journey!
