After General Motors took a chance at the midsize truck segment while other automakers chose to refrain, the 2016 Chevrolet Colorado came out on top and won Motor Trend Truck of the Year. Within the first 10 months of the Chevrolet Colorado being on the marketing, GM sold 70,291, proving its popularity up against an array of full-size pickups other automakers stayed focused on developing. Learn more about the 2016 Chevrolet Colorado here.

2016 Chevrolet Camaro
After a stunning debut earlier this year, the enhanced 2016 Chevrolet Camaro––built in lansing––came out on top to win the Motor Trend Car of the Year award alongside its Truck of the Year companion. Considering the Chevrolet Camaro's improved performance, lighter design, updated technologies, and package upgrades just before its 50th year as an American––now global––favorite, it isn't so surprising the muscle car beat out high-end competitors such as the Audi TT, BMW 7 Series, and Mercedes-Benz GT S. OKEMOS, Mich. –– Taking further initiative to continue advancing science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) programs in the U.S., Chevy will donate a 2016 Chevrolet Volt to FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology), a K–12 robotics program that supports STEM programs nationwide.

FIRST will auction the 2016 Volt––an electric vehicle capable of an EPA-estimated electric range of 53 miles that you can learn more about here––Chevy is donating to raise money for students robotics across the U.S., namely in communities lacking resources to uphold strong STEM education programs. The 2016 Chevy Volt is a fitting donation in the sense that it's currently Chevrolet's most scientifically and technologically advanced vehicle on the market.

Funds produced from the 2016 Chevy Volt donation will be used to shore up FIRST teams across the nation, according to Chevrolet Marketing Director Steve Majoros.

"The Volt exemplified technology, and behind the next-generation Chevrolet Volt is a diverse team of engineers who understand the power of science and math," said Majoros. "FIRST brings science and math alive outside the classroom, just like we are bringing it alive on the road."

General Motors is a Founding and Strategic Partner to FIRST, creating a rich history of collaboration extending back many years. A notable example from 2014 shows that GM partnered with 866 FIRST teams totaling 10,000 students nationwide on various projects. Chevrolet donating a 2016 Volt to support STEM education is once again a supporting step GM is taking to continue advancing FIRST and students interested in STEM careers.

At our Mason area Chevrolet dealer, where we hold a vast selection of technologically advance new Chevy cars and new Chevy trucks, we're excited to see Chevrolet spreading its knowledge and support of STEM education in order to help this industry continue to produce advanced and quality American vehicles.

Cheap Eats for Every College Student Going Back to School

OKEMOS, Mich.– School is out for the summer, but if you’re a college student then you know how brief that little vacation from history lectures and English papers and studying and math tests– we’ll stop listing all of the things that give you anxiety now– can be. Don’t worry– those are things you can adjust to, get back in the groove with.

But what about all of the other things you literally need to survive while living in a dorm room for 8 or 9 months out of the year with $20 to your name? You know, things like food. We can’t ace your biology test for you, but we can help you save money and keep your stomach from growling in class with these cheap eats for every college student heading back to school:
Elbow macaroni, rotini, farfalle, spaghetti– the range of pastas you have to choose from is endless in every direction. Now, what you decide to do with that pasta is what gives you creative power. Try mixing in butter and salt, or add your favorite pasta sauce. Ever had tuna mixed with macaroni? That's a good one, too. The possibilities are endless, as are the carbohydrates, which also make pasta the perfect meal for you college athletes out there!

Cheap Eats for Every College Student Going Back to School

The dog is quite possibly the most fun of the cheap eats due to its blank-slate appearance. What we mean is you can add whatever toppings you like because chances are they’ll all taste great on a hot dog. Plus, you can get an 8-pack of weenies for super cheap, and a bag of hot dog buns is probably less.

Cheap Eats for Every College Student Going Back to School

We love eggs, and so should you. Why? Because, just like pasta and hot dogs, there is a number of ways to eat them– scrambled, fried, hardboiled, poached. Some daredevils even consume them raw, blended into a smoothie, but we’re not condoning that.
Cheap Eats for Every College Student Going Back to School

Right now you’re thinking about how plain and unsatisfying a bowl of rice would be after a long day of classes. But, again, it’s time to expand your mind and let the creative juices start flowing. First of all, a bag of rice will last you a seriously long time. Secondly, you can turn rice into a pretty spectacular meal. For something simple, try adding garlic powder or salt to white rice. For a little zest, go with Spanish rice. If your pallet demands a more complicated concoction of flavors, a bag of fried rice is cheap and also provides you some extra nutritional value from the veggies it contains.
Cheap Eats for Every College Student Going Back to School

Of course we had to include the most classic of the classic cheap eats for college students going back to school. While most college students can eat an entire pizza to themselves, if you’re frugal you can make a pizza last multiple days. And you know how versatile pizza can be, not just with what toppings you put on it, but also in regards to when you eat it, whether its breakfast, lunch, dinner or as a snack. And don’t be ashamed, Morning Pizza Eaters– we’ve all had a slice for breakfast at some point.

Hopefully these cheap eats for every college student heading back to school show that just because you’re digging for quarters in the couch that doesn’t mean you can’t eat semi-well. Of course, you’ll probably want to save those quarters to eventually buy a big bag of salad, but until then you can at least get by with these meals. Do you have any other cheap meal ideas for college students? Share them with us by commenting below! Then check out the New Chevy Cars and New Chevy Trucks available at our Lansing area Chevy dealer!

2016 Chevrolet Colorado Duramax Diesel Pickup

All-New 2016 Chevrolet Colorado Duramax Diesel Pickup
© General Motors

OKEMOS, Mich.– If you have a thing for Chevy trucks, you’re about to fall head over heals for a new update to the Colorado, Chevy's fastest-selling midsize pickup. Say hello to the 2016 Chevrolet Colorado Duramax diesel pickup.

This Colorado on steroids generates 369 pounds per foot of torque with its 2.8L Duramax turbo-diesel engine, and can tow up to 7,700 pounds. As the purest diesel truck engine ever from General Motors, the Duramax is also expected to achieve better fuel economy than the traditional gasoline-run Colorado, which already leads the midsize segment in fuel economy.

The Duramax diesel engine is the midsize truck’s coolest trait. As one of GM’s turbo-diesel four-cylinder engines, the Duramax diesel engine packs value, capability, efficiency and power with a variable-geometry turbocharger. The engine’s power is SAE-certified at 181 horsepower and thanks to its broad torque creates tons of power at low rpm.

Some other features that make the Duramax stand out include:

  • Iron cylinder block and aluminum DOHC cylinder head
  • Forged steel crankshaft and connecting rods
  • Oiling circuit that lets the turbocharger give higher pressure at the turbo and quick oil delivery
  • Piston-cooling oil jets
  • 16.5:1 compression ratio
  • Common rail direct injection fuel system
  • Ceramic glow plugs that heat quicker and at higher temperatures
  • Balance shaft that makes for a smooth drive and drives the oil pump
  • Laminated steel oil pan with an upper aluminum section that strengthens and quiets the engine
  • B20 bio-diesel capability

One of the most important aspects of the Duramax is how successful it has been in meeting some of the most demanding U.S. emissions standards because of its cooled exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) system. The cooled EGR helps lower emissions through redirection of exhaust that is blended into the fresh intake air stream, which is pulled into the cylinder head for combustion. This lowers combustion temperatures and rates, and cuts down on the production of NOx.

While the 2016 Chevrolet Colorado Duramax diesel pickup creates new benchmarks in efficiency and capability for its segment, it’s also another way Chevy is expanding its lineup to give customers more options, according to Sandor Piszar, director of Chevrolet Truck Marketing.

The 2016 Colorado Duramax will be at dealerships this fall in the LT and Z71 Crew Cab models, and will be $3,730 more than a 3.6L V6 model with equivalent features. We can’t wait to show off how clean and efficient this Colorado is next to the New Chevy Cars and New Chevy Trucks at our Chevy dealership serving East Lansing, MI!

2015 Chevy Silverado Bear and Aluminum Man Ads Tease Ford

2015 Chevy Silverado Ads Make Fun of Ford Aluminum Trucks
© Copyright General Motors
OKEMOS, Mich.– We’re all aware of the healthy rivalry that exists between Chevrolet and Ford, but sometimes it’s necessary to take things a step further and add a little sting to the lighthearted humor to really get to the core of what makes Chevy vehicles so different from their biggest competitor.

We want you to drive a reliable, strong vehicle that will safely get you where you need to be, and that’s why we’re laughing at the 2015 Chevy Silverado "bear" and "Aluminum Man" ads that tease Ford aluminum trucks. Because compared to the durable high strength steel Chevy still uses to manufacture its pickups, aluminum is more of a downgrade than an innovation from steel.

The ads, which appear online and have potential to become TV spots, are absolutely hilarious, and from start to finish they never cease poking fun at Ford’s aluminum design.

One spot features a group of comic book fanatics criticizing a satirical superhero, Almighty Aluminum Man, for not being strong enough due to his aluminum make. It's meant to be a comical analogy of Ford’s aluminum truck, hinting at the weakness of aluminum.

Another spot features a series of people in a materials testing facility where they’re asked to test the strength of two cages– one is aluminum and one is steel– before a 700-pound grizzly bear is released into the room. Of course, each of the participants chooses to take refuge in the steel cage because it's stronger than the aluminum cage, and then they’re shown a 2015 Chevy Silverado– also made of high strength steel.

These 2015 Chevy Silverado Bear and Aluminum Man Ads Tease Ford aluminum trucks and do a great job at making you laugh, but they also show the dependability and strength of Chevy’s vehicles, namely their trucks, which are still manufactured with high strength steel– not a weaker metal like aluminum!

Wouldn’t you feel safer in a vehicle made of steel rather than a lighter, more malleable metal? There’s a reason why we sell New Chevy Trucks and New Chevy Cars at our Haslett Area Chevrolet Dealer, instead of any other brand! Come see what makes Chevy so strong and dependable and take a Test Drive– unless you’d rather be put in a steel cage with a ferocious bear trying to get at you.

5 Ways to Keep Your Parked Car Cool this Summer

5 Ways to Keep Your Parked Car Cool this Summer

OKEMOS, Mich. – To keep cool while driving on a hot day is pretty straightforward: blast the air conditioning, keep the windows down or hitch a ride in a convertible. But what about when your car is parked? Here are 5 ways to keep your parked car cool this summer:

  • Invest in a sunshade (window visor). While this isn’t the most fashionable option, it’s probably the most effective way to keep the heat away in the summer. Sunshades reflect the sun’s rays so they don’t bake your vehicle’s seats all day. You could equate this method to parking in the shade, which is our next tip.
  • Park in the shade if you can. Maybe you don’t want a reflective sheet spanning your windshield for everyone to see. If your super fashion conscious and refuse to purchase a sunshade, you can always simply park in the shade. Just be aware that you may be asking for a slew of other problems with this method (must we remind you that birds perch in trees?).
  • Crack your windows just a tad. Obviously you don’t want to leave your windows halfway down while you grocery shop or sit in an office for 8 hours. But if you crack your windows to the point where an arm still can’t fit through the opening, it’s a great way to get airflow in your vehicle. This will prevent your vehicle’s interior from turning into an oven, and keep that stale smell at bay.
  • Go all-out and tint your windows. Again, some of you fashion savvy drivers may not find this option very appealing, but tinting your windows is another effective way to block the sun’s heat. Of course, there are laws to be followed when it comes to tinting, so make sure you check them out before you blackout your vehicle.
  • If you have leather seats, get seat covers. There’s nothing worse than sitting down on hot leather seats, not to mention it can cause serious burns if it’s hot enough. Leather heats up more than fabric, and after getting broiled by the sun all day it’s not going to be pretty when you sit down. An easy solution is to cover your leather seats with fabric seat covers, which make the heat much more bearable.

These 5 ways to keep your parked car cool this summer are the most effective solutions we’ve found. They could rescue you from the agony of getting into a hot car and suffering the entire ride home, and grant you peace of mind to focus on the good aspects of summer’s heat!

Maybe your vehicle has burned you one too many times over the years, and this summer you’re ready to move on. If that’s the case, feel free to peruse our inventory of New Chevy Cars and New Chevy Trucks at our Chevy Dealership! We promise all of our cars will be cool before you test-drive any of them.
